HIStory
In 2013, the Boca Raton Police Foundation (BRPF) was established by business leader, Marc Bell and other community leaders who recognized the need to provide additional financial support to the Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD).
The BRPD is responsible for patrolling an area of 29.6 square miles and a population of approximately 100,000 residents. On a given day that number rises to over 250,000 individuals that include those working and visiting the City.
The BRPD is divided into two divisions: Field Services and Community Services. The Field Services Division is Patrol, Community Engagement, and Investigative Services. The Community Services Division is Special Services, Support Services, Communications, and Professional Services. The specialty teams includes: Special Weapons and Tactics Team, Unmanned Aircraft System Team, Underwater Search and Recovery Team, an accredited Bomb Squad, an Honor Guard and Rifle Team, and a Crisis Negotiation Team.
Currently, the BRPD has 217 police officers (plus 110 civilian employees) and an annual budget of approximately $65 million. With over 96% of its budget devoted to personnel and operations, the Department has little financial flexibility in an era in which the threats facing our community are growing and becoming more complex.
With increasing community expectations, budget reductions, rapidly changing equipment and technology and the need for a flexible funding option separate from the city budgetary process, the Foundation must work diligently to raise needed funds for the Boca Raton Police Department.
Foundation Focus
BRPF is governed by a volunteer board of trustees comprised of business and community leaders with a desire to keep Boca Raton safe and support the police officers that work tirelessly to protect and serve the City.
We look to enhance the BRPD’s ability to acquire the newest and most up-to-date equipment, technology and training and fund community outreach programs that improve public safety, impact officer readiness, and enhance our quality of life.
Safety is the true foundation of all that we value. Without it, there is no peace of mind. No life as we know it. No community built on the rule of law and decency.
If your safety isn’t worth supporting, what is?
BRPF raises funds from the community to fund these initiatives for the BRPD. We work to engage corporations, businesses, individuals, foundations, and other philanthropic organizations to partner with us in our efforts. Donations to BRPF are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
The BRPF is separate from the programs of the Boca Raton Police Department such as the Fraternal Order of Police, Boca Raton Blue Benevolent, Police Athletic League (PAL) and Police Explorers. We collaborate when necessary on information sharing, program coordination, and joint planning.
We are passionately dedicated to ensuring that Boca Raton remains a safe city with a modern, up-to-date police force.
Backing Boca’s Finest by funding the latest technology and training to enhance the safety of our community.
Letter from the Chief
It is my pleasure to offer this letter of support for the Boca Raton Police Foundation. This very important organization was created to assist the Boca Raton Police Services Department by providing resources above and beyond what we receive from the general public. More specifically, the Foundation helps the Department acquire the training, technology and equipment it needs to remain a highly progressive law enforcement agency.
The Boca Raton Police Foundation is more than just a funding source. The board of trustees works closely with my office to explore emerging trends and to identify effective public safety strategies. The Foundation strengthens partnerships between the Department and other programs, such as the Police Athletic League and the Police Explorers as well as the community. The Foundation also encourages excellence in policing by recognizing outstanding achievement. For many years, the Boca Raton Police Services Department has been nationally recognized as a leader in law enforcement. The City of Boca Raton community and its government have made a significant investment in maintaining this commitment to policing excellence. The Boca Raton Police Foundation is a key partner in our quest to take policing to the next level in Boca Raton. I encourage you to fully explore the Foundation through their web site, and consider how you might support this worthy cause. Thank you. Chief Michele Miuccio | Boca Raton Police Department
