COVID-19 is the most pressing problem we have faced in generations. For our Police Officers the role is the same–to protect and serve our residents but their responsibilities now include having to be concerned with a new infectious disease.
The pandemic is challenging for everyone. For law enforcement personnel and their families, it poses unique challenges. Family members worry about their loved ones being exposed to COVID-19 while on duty and possibly bringing it home with them.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is not new in law enforcement. However, the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic has placed a renewed focus on its importance.
Each Boca Raton Police Officer and Crime Scene Technician has been outfitted with PPE that they are utilizing to help keep themselves safe and healthy, so that they can continue to do their work. Other practices have been made to protect officers and the public as well.
In order to ensure adequate protection for our officers, we have created the COVID-19 Response Fund to replenish PPE, essential supplies, equipment and address the evolving training needs presented by this crisis.
Every day our officers are on the frontline working to keep the city safe. We owe it to them to ensure they have the protection necessary for an ongoing response, long-term.
