Boca Raton has a new police chief. Jarad Phelps took the oath of office during a July 30 ceremony at Lynn University. Shortly after, the Boca Raton Police Foundation threw a meet-and-greet reception at Mizner Studio for the new chief. The event afforded Foundation members and local dignitaries the opportunity to get to know Phelps and pose for photos with the new chief. Many members of the BRPD also chose to attend. Foundation Chair Jeff Hollander and City Manager Mark Sohaney addressed the gathering before bringing Phelps to the podium. With more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, Phelps most recently served as Jacksonville, North Carolina’s police chief. Boca chose Phelps from a pool that exceeded 100 applicants.
